Drawing from life is my passion. Soft pastels for colors, charcoal and pen and ink are my favorite mediums. I love color and look for it in unexpected places to enhance my work. My pastel works are done on a variety of surfaces including sanded papers and soft handmade papers. The pen and ink drawings are done on pages from racing forms from various tracks.
As an only child, I spent much time alone in a wonderful world of my own creation. My blackboard entertained me for hours. It had a border of cartoon characters to copy. The simple lines and curves of Bambi's figure fascinated me. The Bambi story lured me further into trying to see and copy the feelings and actions that I imagined.
As I matured watching people and animals continued to fascinate me. The desire to share what I was seeing and feeling in living creatures led me to seek training in figure drawing. It became my passion. What were the subjects all about? What were they thinking or feeling? How can my drawings be refined to the simplest shapes that convey these things? My intention is not to invade the privacy of the subject, but rather show what it is emanating. Sometimes the subject's eyes draw me as a point of entry. At other times the body language speaks to me. May you sense the playful, caring interest and respect that I feel when creating these works of animals or people. May the beauty and dignity of these living creatures come alive and enchant you as they have me.
